The question of when life begins must remain central to this conversation because it establishes whether or not we are dealing with a distinct human being. We must teach that from the moment of conception, we are dealing with a life made in the image of God as described in Genesis 1:26-27. To support abortion is to support an assault on God's very image and to usurp His sovereignty as the Creator. The Bible is the authoritative Word of God and must govern everything a Christian thinks, says, and does,

Jesus taught that the second greatest commandment is to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39). The preborn child is simply our littlest, most innocent, and most vulnerable neighbor. Supporting a mother's "choice" to terminate her child grants special murder rights to one group of people over another, which violates the biblical mandate for equal justice and impartial love. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus demonstrated that neglecting a neighbor in need is a sin.

You are entirely correct that the development of a fetus demands an immense amount of nutrition, energy, and sustenance from the mother for 40 weeks. Children are constantly taxing and require incredible amounts of help and sacrifice.

• A human being's inherent value and right to life are not voided simply because they are in a vulnerable state that requires intense physical care and dependency. We are commanded in Proverbs 31:8 to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves," which perfectly describes the dependent child.
• Because the woman's body—specifically the uterus—was created by God precisely to hold that safe space for life, allowing an offspring to live in the reproductive organ made for them is an ordinary level of care.
  • For example my son was dependent on my wife for milk. He was a 1 percentile baby and just like they right to their mother's milk after they are born, a preborn child has a right to their mother's uterus before they are born. This beautiful, God-designed dependency is captured in Psalm 22:9-10: "Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother's breasts. Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother's womb". This is how God created us.

While we must acknowledge that the circumstances surrounding a pregnancy can be incredibly difficult and heart-wrenching, we have to teach clearly that an individual's terrible situation or lack of resources never justifies intentionally killing another innocent human being.
